Had some trouble recently setting up some Mail accounts for a couple clients who use Road Runner Mail through nycap, but had some great help from their tech support who gave me some guidance as to why their outgoing mail was not working.  For those who have had the same issue, here are some settings to watch out for on the outgoing mail side.

1.  Under outgoing mail server, be sure it is set to smtp.nycap.rr.com

2. Under the Advanced tab under the Outgoing Server, be sure to select Use Custom Port and type in 25 (despite 25 being one of the servers under the default ports, the tech support person told me to use the custom port option with port 25)

3. Lastly, select None under Authentication

You will be able to send mail through nycap on Apple Mail if you follow these simple instructions for outgoing mail.
